Kids’ LEGO engineering in Calgary
Kid engineering classes in Calgary use LEGO Technic, WeDo 2.0, SPIKE Prime, and Mindstorms kits. The curriculum is usually structured around building a mechanism (gears, lifting arm, vehicle), then programming it with block-based code. It’s the gateway from LEGO-on-the-floor play to proper robotics.
Most programs run weekly after-school blocks — 60 or 90 minutes, 8–10 weeks a term — plus PD-day intensives and spring/summer camps. Good fit for 5–9s who already build LEGO at home and want more structure. By 9–10, the same kids usually move into structured robotics (FLL, Mindstorms) or coding classes.
Price-wise, after-school LEGO engineering classes run $35–60 per session, or $280–500 per term. PD-day and summer camps run $60–110 per day, $300–600 for a full week. Kits are always provided — don’t need to buy anything for class.
I’m going to be honest — many LEGO engineering programs are very similar to the intro tier of robotics classes, just branded differently. The difference is usually in curriculum depth. If your kid is already building complex sets independently, skip straight to a real robotics or coding class. If they’re still learning basic mechanisms, LEGO engineering is the right entry point.
Fall registration opens August. Summer camps open January–February. Both fill quickly at the mid-range price points.
This is a bucket where the studio matters more than the curriculum branding. Ask about class sizes (6–8 kids is good; 12+ means limited help per kid) and how many kits are available per child.
