Kids’ soccer in Calgary
Calgary Minor Soccer governs the bulk of community soccer for U4–U18. Every community association with a soccer program feeds into it. For most families, that’s the default pick — cheap, local, walk-to-the-field.
The community-level outdoor season runs roughly May through July. Indoor domes — Calgary West, Village Square, McMahon Sports Society — keep the season alive September through April. Kids who play both run year-round.
Outdoor registration through your community association typically opens in January and closes late March. Indoor registration opens late August. Miss either window and you’re on a waitlist or paying a late fee.
Costs vary by community. A typical outdoor community-level season runs $100–250 per kid. Indoor is similar. Calgary Minor Soccer’s tiered and competitive streams cost more — $400–1000+ depending on level. Private academies (Foothills Soccer Club, Calgary Foothills WFC) run their own programs outside the community system with their own prices.
I’m going to be honest — the difference between communities matters. Some associations have big fields, enough coaches, and run like a small business. Others scrape by. If your community soccer is thin, you can usually register with a neighbouring community. Check first.
Gear: shin guards, age-appropriate ball (size 3 for U8, size 4 for U12, size 5 for U13+), cleats for outdoor or turf shoes for indoor. Most community programs provide a jersey. You don’t need anything else to start.
Ages start at U4 (turning 4 in the calendar year). Under 8 is all development — mini-fields, small-sided, no league standings. Tiered competitive starts at U9–U10.
