Kids’ gymnastics in Calgary

Gymnastics gyms in Calgary run three tiers on roughly the same timetable: preschool tumbling (18 months to 5), recreational classes (5 and up), and competitive streams by invitation.

The recreational-class market is split across a handful of dedicated clubs and a long tail of community-run tumbling. The dedicated clubs have the foam pits, Olympic-sized floors, and full spring-floor tumble tracks. Community-run classes usually share a school gym.

Price is where expectations get reset. Recreational classes run roughly $220–350 for a 10-week session, once per week. Twice-a-week programs double that. Competitive streams jump to thousands per year — it’s a commitment track, not a hobby.

I’m going to be honest — the big recreational clubs fill fast. Registration for the fall session typically opens in early August; the Saturday preschool slots book out in the first week. Waitlist management is the thing that separates families who get in from families who don’t. If you care about a specific day and time, register the morning it opens.

Age-wise, parent-and-tot starts around 18 months — it’s really a tumbling-and-songs class with a foam shape course. Independent preschool classes start at 3. School-age recreational runs through 12 or so, after which most kids either move up to competitive or quietly stop.

Bare feet, hair tied back, fitted clothes with no zippers. Leotard or tight shirt and shorts for girls; t-shirt and athletic shorts for boys. That’s the whole gear list.
